What is GPON and how does fiber internet reach your home?

GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is the technology that brings fiber internet from your ISP to your home. Unlike traditional copper-based DSL or cable, GPON uses glass fiber optic cables to transmit data as pulses of light, enabling much faster speeds and lower latency.

How It Works

A single fiber from your ISP connects to a GPON modem (also called an ONT – Optical Network Terminal) in your home. This modem converts the optical signal into electrical signals that your devices can use.
